Developer's Plans Would Violate the Law

If the County Planning Commission approved this subdivision, they would be authorizing violations of the California Coastal Act and of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) - future development that would:

• Destroy about 60% of trees along a ridgeline visible from Trinidad Head and other shoreline points.
• Destroy many large trees - up to 234 or more, and violate coastal commission standards for dense coastal forests along Stagecoach Road.
• Destroy trees on the steep eastern slope of the sea stack - trees whose root systems stabilize the slope and protect against landslides.
• Position homes that violate the 194 foot setback requirements of the Trinidad area portion of the Coastal Act - some could be as close as 24 feet from the road.

These are all violations of the Coastal Act and/or of CEQA.

The County Planning Department Recommends Approval

Nevertheless, the County Planning Department recommends that the Planning Commission approve this project. Below are all the documents which the developer and the Planning Department have submitted to support their recommendation.
